Perry Technical Institute Student Success Specialist in Yakima, Washington

*STUDENT SUCCESS SPECIALIST *

 

Under the direction of the Student Success Coordinator, the Student Success Specialist is responsible for supporting the Student Success Coordinator in providing students with guidance, resources, and academic coaching. The Student Success Specialist will meet with students---both one-on-one and in a group setting---to provide information and support to help them successfully graduate from Perry Technical Institute.  This will include developing and providing academic support services and participating in a variety of campus activities.  This position also assists the assessment center by proctoring entrance assessments (both online and in person) for prospective students, and other licensing exams for current students and the general public.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Duties are performed in an office setting.  Working effectively and collaboratively in a team environment is a must.

 

This is a non-exempt, full-time regular position.  This position requires schedule flexibility. Hours may vary depending on the needs of the department with a weekly average of 40.  Overtime may be required.  Typical hours are as follows: Monday -- Thursday, 7:00 am -- 5:00 pm and include a half hour lunch.

 

*SALARY RANGE:  *$21.00 - $22.00 per hour

*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: *

  • Associate's degree or certificate of completion from an accredited career school.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be willing to consent to a drug test.

     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience working in an academic setting.
  • Experience providing guidance to students.
  • Experience with Zoom or a similar web-based video conferencing tool.
  • Pearson VUE certified proctor.

     

*ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:                       *

Engage with students and staff in a professional, approachable manner.

Utilize tact, patience, and courteousness to effectively navigate and resolve sensitive situations, demonstrating empathy and maintaining confidentiality.

Provide students with individual coaching in study strategies, time management, stress management, and other areas relevant to student success.

Develop and deliver interactive presentations on a variety of student success topics (e.g., note-taking, test preparation, procrastination, etc.).

Work closely with other departments to improve student preparedness and retention.

Compile and share up-to-date information about campus and community resources beneficial to students.

Communicate with the student body to increase their awareness of student success services and campus activities.
